Have you ever found yourself comparing your back end story with someone’s highlight reel?
It’s the people you have seen become a success overnight (or so it feels) with their work and you wonder how it has just happened for them? And then you start comparing yourself and asking questions like-
Why hasn’t this happened to me yet?
Am I doing something wrong?
How can I get to where they are?
I have been guilty of this in the past but soon learnt not to compare my back end story with someone’s highlight reel. We all have a different story, and a way in which we got to where we are, and the time it took us to get to where we are!
it’s all about running to your own timezone.
Last night I attended an event with over 70 other women in the region where I live where the topic was around social media.
As I was a new face to the group, it seemed everyone wanted to chat with me and discover my story. So, I shared it to the women who were interested and then all of a sudden I got asked the above questions and more!
The conversations were great, inspiring to hear others adventures and successes and led to a future speaking opportunity over the coming months.
But it was a reminder that comparisonitis can take over and truly prevent you from pushing forward. It reminded me that I was there once, and now instead of wondering “what if”, I am wondering “what’s next” and “what now.”
The overnight successes we see and wish upon – the ‘that’ll be me one day’ moments usually have a lifetime behind them. We only see the surface results.
This is how the adventure can be – for all of us, even the entrepreneurs and business leaders we respect and who have success, like the Richard Bransons, Oprahs, Elon Musk’s, Marie Forleo’s who just seem to do it so effortlessly.
Your story, your success is the accumulation of all your daily actions. The stories we see, are moments of their adventure, the highlights reel.
Why do I say this?
Because your success, your vision that you live and breathe with a glimmer of hope that it will turn into a magical moment one day…soon… that is only a daily action away!
If you CONSISTENTLY build these daily actions one on top of another.
That success, that vision you’re aiming for – you just live now one day, one action at a time
It is your life – there is no other way to make it happen. It’s in your control.
What’ll it be for the rest of 2017?!
I would love to know your thoughts on this.
